HARMAN PHOTO GLOSS FB Al Paper

HARMAN PHOTO Professional Inkjet GLOSS FB ALPaper is coming to Red River Paper. This is the first time we have sold a 3rd party paper other than branded Red River product. Why? Because the Harman gloss is truly unique and truly first quality. Also, Red River Paper does not (and probably will never) carry a similar paper under our brand.

A little about the Harman Gloss FM AL - The paper harkins back to
the days of air dried fibre papers from a photo lab. Among the other fibre glossy papers recently introduced, our customers have commented that the Harman indeed "pulls it off" in terms of look, feel, and perhaps most importantly scuff resistance.

Harman has done the hard work of ICC profile production. For now, you can get them at the Harman website. We may host them on the Red River site with their permission.

We expect to have the paper in stock next week. Look for more info then.

Jerry Courvoisier, digital guru at the Santa Fe Workshops, has a Photoshop template for a 2008 CD case calendar (see photo below). These are a GREAT way to share 12 images, all printed on your favorite Red River inkjet paper!

You can buy CD calendar cases lots of places. The image above is from www.calendar-case.com, or you can google "CD calendar case" and see what pops up.

Go to Jerry's webpage at Santa Fe workshops and scroll down to the bottom. You'll see a zip file of the Photoshop master file he made, as well as a movie to watch about how to use it.

Dourian Art 8.5x11 Still Available

For Dourian Art fans, we still have 8.5x11 in limited quantities. When its gone, its gone.

If you are not familiar with Dourian, it was made for us exclusively by Hahnemuhle, based on their Photo Rag Duo product. At 250gsm, Dourian was a nice middle weight in between the Hahnemuhle 190gsm and 308gsm sheets.

Customers report that Dourian has a better dMax than Photo Rag Duo and somewhat better color saturation. Whatever the cause, it is a truly great premium fine art inkjet paper.

Installing ICC color profiles on Windows Vista

Putting ICC profiles in their proper location with Vista is no different than with XP. From customer reports though, there may be a bug that causes profiles not to show up in the right place when using Photoshop or other printing program.

You can install color profiles in Vista one of two ways:

1) With the profile sitting on your desktop (or other uncompressed folder), right click on the file and choose INSTALL PROFILE from the menu.

2) Copy and paste the uncompressed profile to this directory:
Windows > System 32 > Spool > Drivers > Color

Once Photoshop or other software is restarted, the new profile(s) will appear in the proper dialogs. If not, then you can consider contacting Microsoft for their thoughts.

13 Ways to be a Greener Photographer

Red River's GreenPix Photo Matte is mentioned in American Photo this month. The article lists ways photographers can be more environmentally aware in the business or hobby of photography.

GreenPix is the world's only 100% post-consumer content photo inkjet paper. Slightly thicker than a traditional photo, GreenPix features a slightly warm tone and premium inkjet coating for sharp detail and saturated color.
